Amplifying Women’s Stories: Launch of the Global Media Award for the Implementation of the WPS Agenda

Between 2018 and 2021, the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) and its partners, with support from Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), trained journalists in Armenia, Colombia, Georgia, Kenya, Moldova, the Philippines, Uganda and Ukraine. Following the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Media trainings, the journalists created informal networks to work towards the promotion and implementation of WPS and Youth, Peace and Security resolutions in their countries. Moreover, GNWP and its partners, with support from ADA and Norad, held national #MediaFor1325 competitions. The competitions incentivized journalists to produce and publish written, audio and audio-visual materials that promote women’s leadership in peacebuilding and the implementation of the WPS agenda.

On 3 November 2021, GNWP, Austrian Development Cooperation, and the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations are launching the Global #MediaFor1325 Award. Join us to promote and recognize journalists and media practitioners whose work contributes to the implementation of the WPS agenda. The winners from national Media and WPS competitions, as well as other journalists from fragile and developing countries around the world will be with us to celebrate #MediaFor1325.
