Dear friends of UN Women Austria!

The COVID-19 pandemic is accompanied by a multitude of challenges in the global fight against Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). Continued movement restrictions place more and more women and girls in vulnerable situations, exposing them to a Shadow Pandemic of VAWG.

The Ban Ki-Moon Centre (BKMC) is highlighting this Shadow Pandemic in an Action Brief, which will be launched on February 25, 2021. Monika Fröhler (Chief Executive Officer, BKMC) and Viola Christian (Program Officer, BKMC) will give insights into this Brief during a virtual Round Table, pointing out some of the effects of COVID-19 on VAWG and necessary action steps to eliminate this Shadow Pandemic.

The virtual Round Table on “The Shadow Pandemic: Violence Against Women During COVID-19 Times” will take place on Thursday, 25 February 2021 at 6:00 p.m. (UTC+1) as a Zoom video conference.

The BKMC was founded in 2018 by the former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and the former Austrian Federal President Heinz Fischer. The quasi-international organization empowers women and youth to act as global citizens in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. As a partner of UN Women Austria, the BKMC has been engaged in promoting the Orange the World campaign within Austria and beyond.

Please register by February 24, 2021: info@unwomen.at.

After registration, you will receive the link to the virtual round table by email. This allows you to join the Zoom video conference at the time of the meeting using a browser or a free app.

As always, we ask for a donation for the UN Women projects in the Refugee Camp Za’atari in Jordan.

We look forward to your participation!
