Dear friends of UN Women Austria!
The largest refugee camp in the Middle East, Za’atari, is home to about 80 000 people. The vast majority are women and girls. In the upcoming Round Table we have the pleasure to get further insights on the lives of women and girls within the refugee camp`s in Jordan. UN Women has developed a unique model to respond to the urgent needs of Syrian refugees in camp settings in Za’atari and Azraq, the Oasis empowerment center. Ziad Sheikh (Country Representative of UN Women in Jordan) will tell us more about the unique Oasis system and the challenges refugee women and girls face due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, he will give us insights on the achievements such as the new ground breaking initiative by UN Women and World Food Program using blockchain to assist Syrian refugee women participating in UN Women’s cash for work programmes at the Za’atari and Azraq refugee camps.
